US group opens Cuban 5 Website
Havana, Mar 11 (Prensa
Latina) The International Committee for the release of five Cuban
anti-terrorist fighters unfairly imprisoned in United States for
almost a decade dedicated a website to their mothers, sisters and
wives, local media reported Tuesday.
For those
interested in updated information on the judiciary process of the
Five, as they are universally known, and their relatives' troubles
with visiting them, the site is available at
www.thecuban5.org, "Juventud
Rebelde" newspaper reported.
This will be an
important instrument within the United States to break the wall of
silence created by the largest media as for the case, said Alicia
Jrakpo, member of the International Committee for the release of the
Cuban Five.
"It will also
emphasize their relatives' inalienable rights to visit them
regularly, without any obstacle," Jrakpo stated.
Gerardo Hernandez,
Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene
Gonzalez were detained on September 12, 1998, for monitoring
terrorist groups responsible of violent actions against Cuba.
The site also
includes information on the denial of visa for Adriana Perez and
Olga Salanueva, spouses of Gerardo and Rene, respectively, and the
recent creation of the International Commission for the Right to
Family Visits.
Those who can
visit it will see photos of the Five and their biographies, updated
news, an explanation of the case, and voices of support from human
rights organizations and figures worldwide.
Also included is a
letter to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Attorney General
Michael Mukasey, to denounce their severe sentences ranging from 15
years to double life terms.
According to
promoters, the website only appears at present in English language,
but there will be a Spanish version in the next months. |
